Description of the Project:

The proposed development consists of an office block and an associated residential development. Unison HQ is located between Euston Road, Churchway and Charlton Street in London. The building comprises of an office building and residential tower and the two occupancies are adequately separated at basement level. The office block contains a central atrium linking ground to fourth floors and a tower with a floor plate area of approximately 320m2 and approximately 36.78m in height.

LWF Involvement:

LWF were appointed to provide fire safety and fire engineering services to the project including the production of the Fire Strategy Report for the proposed new building. The key fire engineering services include:

• Provide fire engineered solutions to overcome non-compliances with prescriptive guidance;

• Assess means of escape by applying the evacuation model Simulation of Transient Evacuation for Pedestrian Smoke Movement (STEPS) to justify the non-compliance issues of the means of escape provisions;

• Atrium design;

• Liaison with client and design team;

• Produce the fire strategy report for the development;

• Provide structural fire assessment for reducing the required passive fire protection period to the steel frame structural elements.
