LWF was appointed by Andrews & Boyd Consultants Ltd, who were responsible for overseeing the internal fit out of the reinstated public house. The design and build of the shell and core was being undertaken by a separate company, however LWF was instructed to develop a fire strategy for the entire building, ensuring all aspects of the build were fully integrated.
The five storey building is classed as mixed use with commercial areas open to the public located on the basement, ground and first floors, and accommodation for approximately 6 members of staff provided on the second and third floors.
The fire strategy included the use of a fire engineered solution to ensure an equivalent level of safety was achieved to that outlined in the standard guidance. This allowed the design team to take full advantage of the available floor space and resulted in an increase to the maximum occupancy figures within the main bar areas at both ground and first floor level.
In addition to producing the fire strategy and providing general fire safety advice, LWF attended meetings with the design team and the Building Control Body and was involved with negotiations with the relevant statutory authorities.
