Tweed House – fire engineering consultancy, fire strategy report

LWF has played an active role in the development and concept design of the building, which comprises a 16 storey tower and a 5 storey low-rise element, by providing fire engineering consultancy services. LWF also developed an integrated fire strategy report.

Description of the Project:

The project involves the extension and refurbishment of and existing residential block located within the East India Estates, into a balanced and sustainable community that represents a key objective of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets regeneration strategy. Features include a

16 storey tower and a 5 storey low-rise element which overlooks a lawn and play space adjacent to the Lime House Cut. Access to the residential blocks is via

single means of escape staircases that also act as the fire-fighting access to the buildings.

LWF Involvement:

LWF has played an active role in the development and concept design of the building by providing fire engineering consultancy services. Works include:

• Support the design team dealing with various active and passive fire safety

design details;

• Development of integrated fire strategy reports for RIBA Stage C planning application;

• Use of fire engineering principles to compensate for the extended travel

distance within the common parts of flats;

• Liaise with local fire and rescue service to gain agreement in terms of access for fire vehicles to site using a fire engineering approach.
